Location
This private island is 45 minutes by seaplane from Male, in the Madhufaru lagoon on the Noonu Atoll, a relatively quiet piece of the Indian Ocean.
Rooms
Soneva Jani is home to probably the best overwater villas in the world. They come with private pool, private lagoon access from the bathroom and a water slide on the second floor. The new beach villas with one to four bedrooms are the best option with young kids and babies. Soneva Jani resort is split into two “chapters” and we highly recommend staying in the South Chapter. The villas here are newer, better designed and closer to some of the facilities. It’s possible to have a package inclusive of just about everything on the island, like spa treatments, excursions and all a la carte restaurants.
Who is it for
Remove your shoes and feel close to nature. We love the focus on sustainability at Soneva Jani and it’s the perfect choice for anyone who wants this feeling of connection to the natural world. Overall, this is an amazing resort for children and adults that has consistently been among the very best Maldives resorts. There is no house reef and there are much better options if you plan to do many underwater activities.
Facilities & activities
We love the new Soneva Soul, a nature dominated and transformative spa, another strong reason to choose Soneva Jani. It's one of so many facilities and activities. Ride a buggy through the forest to an overwater Japanese restaurant. Spend an evening at the outdoor observatory. Cycle around the island. But mostly do nothing at all, as you’re staying in one of the best overwater villas in the world. Soneva Jani has some amazing dining options, like the Japanese restaurant with outdoor cinema, Swedish fine dining and the Crab Shack beach restaurant where they almost exclusively serve crab. In August 2022 they opened a new Children Den, the largest kids area in the entire Indian Ocean, a place your kids would spend months if they could. And then there are all the sports activities, like tennis courts where pro tennis players are known to give lessons.
