Montana

United States

Montana does nature on a massive scale. This is a rural state for wilderness adventures and hanging out at five-star ranches.

Explore Montana

Jagged peaks and immense forests. Glassy lakes and bison herds upon the prairies. Hiking trails and grizzly bears in the wild, plus glaciers and fresh powdery ski slopes. In Yellowstone and Glacier National Park, Montana has two epic reasons to travel, plus the skiing in the Rockies is consistently topnotch.

Getting here and around

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is well located for exploring the ski destinations, Yellowstone and Montana’s west. Although it’s only a domestic airport, the flight connections are often more useful than those of neighbouring Wyoming. Smaller airports can help you get around. Travel by road and you can travel for many long hours without the horizon changing.

Climate & seasons

Although the ski season goes from late-November to April, February and March deliver the best conditions and the slopes remain uncrowded. The summer months are best for exploring Montana’s national park.

Where to go

Bison dot the prairies that unfold to Montana’s east, mingling into what remains of Wild West tradition and indigenous Indian cultures. You’re more likely to be exploring Western Montana, where mountain goats and snowboarders cruise the Rocky Mountains, and lakes reflect big blue skies. It’s this western side where some exceptional ranch accommodation is found, perfect if you want to retreat and recharge, while still exploring a unique way of life.

What to do

Montana’s remote ranches help keep local traditions alive, like horseback riding, dog sledding and driving cattle from the prairies. In winter there’s great skiing and through summer you can follow the scent of grizzly bears with a wilderness guide. Everything feels exclusive out here, so whether you come as a couple or a family, expect to have private adventures beneath Montana’s famously big skies.
