India

The holiday experience here is vibrant and intense, absolutely new every single day. Not everybody will love it. You must leave some of your usual holiday expectations at home, for India can feel like you’re exploring an entirely new planet. Still, it’s safe to shed some of your old stereotypes, because India is really embracing contemporary holiday luxury.

Explore India

India has so many faces. And each of them unravels a feast of fresh experiences. It can be indelibly spiritual, architecturally glorious, beautifully natural, an explosion of culture, colour and culinary magic. This blends into a kaleidoscope of enchantment and sensual indulgence, with smells and sounds and sights so different to home. Nowhere you’ve ever visited will compare to India. The holiday experience here is vibrant and intense, absolutely new every single day. Not everybody will love it. Getting here and around

Use one of the Middle Eastern airlines and you can have a two-leg flight to over 30 destinations in India. Which is preferable to flying in and out of Mumbai or New Delhi - there are more interesting and easier places than these two smoggy behemoths. Over the last ten years India has massively improved its internal travel infrastructure. Now there are great domestic flight connections to relatively small destinations. Plus the trains, which although are not luxurious, are clean, interesting and authentic.

Climate & seasons

India is home to over 1 billion people and 29 individual states, each remarkably different from the next. It’s a continent with hundreds of microclimates. November to April is generally a better time to visit, as you avoid the intense heat and monsoons of summer. But parts of the north are inaccessible during these winter months. It really depends on you. Whatever month you travel there will be a destination enjoying its best weather, and a destination best avoided.

Where to go

The colourful cities of Rajasthan, the spirituality of Varanasi, the Taj Mahal and ancient Agra. Partying and beaches in Goa, tranquillity in tea towns, cruising the Kerala backwaters and the Kama Sutra temples of Khajuraho. Mumbai, tiger safaris, trekking and wellness retreats in the Himalayas, plus the tropical Indian islands in the Indian Ocean. Even with a lifetime you can’t go everywhere. It can all be amazing. We recommend planning a trip around India’s best accommodation, because not everywhere can be comfortable.

What to do

Stop. Take a breath. Don’t plan too much. India will create the experience, every time you step from your hotel. You don’t need to search for something unique here. It’s more important to slow down and absorb more of everything that’s around you. Whether it’s a ceremony in a 3000-year-old temple or following elephants into the jungle, India will consistently do one thing that’s so important in life - excite you with something different.
