Athens International is the country’s biggest and busiest. Getting around the city is best done by private chauffeured car, taxi or uber. In the cooler months walking is the ideal way to soak up the atmosphere of this historic capital.
Climate & seasons
Exploring the city is most enjoyable during the cooler months of Spring or Autumn, downtown gets a bit too hot in the Summer. July and August is however a great time to indulge in beach life on the Athens Riviera.
Where to go
No trip to Athens is complete with a trip to the Acropolis. If one temple is too few then check out the Poseidon Temple in Sounion too. Once temple fatigue kicks in, head to a beach in the Athens Riviera. A helicopter day trip to the vertiginous monasteries at Meteora is a must. Whilst day trips to Corinth, Delphi or sailing to Saronic Island are great mini-adventures.
What to do
Few destinations have the depth of historic sites as Athens. The city centre is all about sightseeing. All that museum and temple-hopping can build up an appetite and Greece cuisine does not disappoint. Neither does the wine or raki. Once you’ve explored the city head to a rooftop bar or the sea. Better still why not base yourself at the beach with a leisure stay at the Four Seasons and dip into the city at will. Day trips from the city are varied and easily organised, multi-day cruises are a great way to see more of this miraculous country.
