Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel

Originally built in 1985, a 12-month transformation in 2019 has granted this Middle Eastern treasure several upgraded twists. All the while, Al Bustan Palace maintains its high standard and dazzling ancient charm, though the traditional style could be a deal breaker for those who hold contemporary tastes.

Stay at Al Bustan Palace

Surrounded by mountainous backdrops and glorious shades of emerald green, Al Bustan Palace implores you to surrender to the spoils of its coastal retreat. As you are welcomed in by dates and fresh coffee, frankincense scents fill the lobby, fuelling serendipitous thought.Your initial wander through the estate is met with smiles, as you uncover a maze of glistening pools. Witness old world carvings, colours and customs unite, beside the seductive glamour of the modern age. Romantic breakfasts on the beach begin your mornings. Afternoon tea is taken in the shadow of a soaring gold dome. Ambient evenings in the jazz lounge are equally alluring, at this iconic Omani landmark fusing heritage and grandeur.

Location

The hotel occupies a beachfront position, nestled bayside in the shadow of the Al Hajar mountain range. Roughly a 40-minute drive from the airport, the location may feel a tad too isolated for those who prefer more lively spots.

Rooms

A total of 250 freshly refurbished stays make up the property, featuring private balconies or patios and a highly opulent Arabian design. Since there are no villas and only the presidential suite offers multi-rooms, larger parties can opt for interconnecting suites.

Who is it for

Recent renovations saw the resort add a large climbable Omani ship, a separate children’s pool and an indoor kids’ club to its recreational fleet, making Al Bustan more suited to families than ever before. However, there remains plenty of pleasure and privacy for couples seeking a romantic stay.

Facilities & activities

As well as a huge and hidden stretch of beach, guests have a state-of-the-art spa and fitness centre at their disposal. Multiple pools, tennis courts, a yoga studio and ample water activities add to the fun. Five eclectic dining venues also feature, alongside one of the largest ballroom spaces in all of Muscat.
