Stay at Esencia

Bold bright colors illuminate from all directions as you walk toward the beach, from the stylish boutique hotel Esencia. Rich green grass rolls out to the edge of powdery white sand. Beyond that, the turquoise sea dances and shimmers with the wind. Smells of fresh-cut grass and salty electrons mix and fill the air. Fresh fish and quesadillas are next, frying up in an array of zesty Mexican ingredients. Ahh, the holiday is here and total relaxation is on the cards.Originally a private home for an Italian duchess, Hotel Esencia is completely different to the large chain hotels elsewhere on the Rivieria Maya. Once an aristocratic hangout, it’s now the most private and secluded resort along Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Jungle melts into the beach and what Esencia lacks in amenities it more than compensates for with privacy.

Location

Set on Xpu-Ha beach the nearest airport lies, just over an hour's drive, in Cancun. A brief half-hour car drive to the Mayan ruins in Tulum to experience architectural history. There are plenty of fascinating outings in the vicinity of the hotel but most find it difficult to leave the cozy resort.

29 rooms, including 17 suites and 2 cottages are on offer. Whether you choose a beach view, secret jungle, or pool view all the rooms are classic hacienda style and have incredible dark wood and beautiful textures. Each spot is equipped with a plunge pool and an array of beautiful rugs and throws.

Esencia is for those looking to escape it all, go barefoot, and enjoy the likes of yoga, paddle boarding, and other sea activities with perfect alone time. Mostly, it’s for people who want privacy above anything else.

Facilities & activities

Beautiful big pools with sea views are a big hit here, there is one pool for the families, and one for adults only. The modern spa, fitness center, and steam rooms are exactly what is needed between salty beach dips. The restaurant serves incredible fresh Mexican dishes, caught straight from the sea.
