Miavana by Time + Tide

Among the world’s ultimate private island experiences, a natural Indian Ocean paradise with remarkably high levels of exclusivity, quality and privacy.

Stay at Miavana

Step onto empty white sand. Walk through an endemic forest where lemurs roam. Gaze out to nothing but the Indian Ocean. Explore. Keep exploring. Still you don’t see other people. Welcome to one of the greatest island retreats, a highly exclusive sanctuary in the Indian Ocean. Getting here is a challenge. But for those who make it, very few places compare.

Location

A private island in the protected Levens archipelago, off the northeast coast of Madagascar. Getting here will always require at least three legs, the final leg being a helicopter transfer. There are different flight options depending on the time of year. We will advise you on your options.

Rooms

14 exceptional villas on an island of over 10 square kilometres. The smallest is a huge 450 square metres and they’re very well separated from each other. Each villa is directly on the beach, with its own wooden deck, plunge pool and butler. Villas don’t vary in quality, only in size, with one, two and three-bedroom options available. Miavana only opened in 2017 and the villas still feel very fresh.

Who is it for

Discerning travellers who are looking for something more exclusive than the other Indian Ocean islands. Nobody you know will have had a similar experience to you on Miavana. It’s best for couples or families with older children, as the travel logistics make it uncomfortable for young kids.

Facilities & activities

One key difference between Miavana and Maldivian resorts is the size of the island. Miavana island is too big to fully explore on one holiday and the nature is an endemic microcosm of Madagascar. Imagine lemur trekking, sea turtle encounters, whale spotting by helicopter, plus forest hikes to deserted beaches. Or simply exploring in your villa’s golf buggy. European winter time is an amazing time for scuba, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing at Miavana. Then there’s kitesurfing from May to October and the full range of other water sports activities.
