Puerto Vallarta

Mexico

Serene beaches and palm trees. Outstanding resorts and fun beneath the Mexican sun. Surf waves rolling in. Ah, Pacific Mexico. Except Puerto Vallarta is more than only a beach destination. It’s a gateway to a very authentic region, a place where history meets modern hippy chic. After all, this is where you’ll find the town of Tequila along with superb resorts from brands like One&Only and Four Seasons. English is widely spoken and it’s very safe, yet there’s still a strong explorer vibe to any holiday in Puerto Vallarta.

Explore Puerto Vallarta

You’ll need to fly here via Mexico City, or one of various US cities that are now flying to Puerto Vallarta. A Puerto Vallarta holiday is perfect if you like to have one great resort base and do day trips.

Climate & seasons

October to May are warm, dry months, so this is a wonderful destination for some winter sun. June to September are wetter and busier.

Where to go

Explore mountain villages, coastal towns, surf beaches and more on day trips from your resort. We recommend staying on Punta Mita peninsula, where all the best resorts are located, including St Regis, Four Seasons and Conrad Punta Mita. One&Only Mandarina is another good option, a little further north. Like Cancun and Los Cabos, some parts of Puerto Vallarta town can feel touristy and borderline trashy. But it is safe and the development has been more organic than on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

What to do

Dozens of serene beaches can make Puerto Vallarta a classic beach holiday destination for all the family. We love that holidays here aren’t solely focused on the resort. Learn to surf or learn about sea turtle conversation. Taste tequila in Tequila, explore vibrant beach towns like Sayulita, or any of the Pueblos Magicos, historic villages with a colourful local ambiance. There’s also whale watching season from December to March.
