Andaz is an entry-level 5* hotel and the smallest property in the Mayakoba complex. It’s also the least expensive and best for people who want a modern and informal atmosphere, without spending a fortune. We recommend the beachfront rooms or suites to dive into the full-on Mexican beach feel. One problem is the brownish-red seaweed that washes up on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, especially from May to August. Andaz has a small army of cleaners raking it up but it does mean there’s often a tractor going up and down the beach.

Location

The lush haven is found between Cancun and Playa del Carmen on the northeastern side of Mexico. A quick fifteen minutes to Playa del Carmen makes exploring local shops and nightlife very easy. Cancun airport is 35 minutes away.

Rooms

White and spacious, the rooms fit the modern sense of style that the resort offers. Most rooms look onto lush green bush, which is great for birding but does not offer direct beach access. Only a few beach suites and rooms give direct access to the sand. Some of these rooms come with a beautiful balcony and a plunge pool, perfect for those typically tropical Mexico days.

Who is it for

Andaz is part of the Mayakoba complex and typically attracts younger adults and like-minded families. It’s a hotel that has moved away from the formalities of fancier hotels, so it’s more playful in style. Plus, there are all the Mayakoba attractions, including golf, so everybody will find something to do.

Facilities & activities

Tours of the mangroves, a beautiful golf course, free bikes, a beach restaurant that resembles an old washed-up shipwreck, and a beach with sand so soft it’s impossible to imagine before you arrive. Grab a cocktail and put your feet up on the beach loungers or head to the spa or gym. There’s a kid-friendly pool by the beach and a second pool with a more adult vibe in the heart of the resort.
