Stay at O&O Portonovi
Europe’s first One&Only opened in Montenegro in 2021. It’s magnificent. Sparkling on the Adriatic, in the Portonovi marine village, this is the best place to stay in Southern Europe’s new jet-set destination. It’s now established as an ultra-luxe retreat, complete with a Chenot Espace medical spa and its own harbour for superyachts. Novak Djokovic is a regular - we saw him here during our latest inspection - and for most of our clients, this is the best place to stay in Montenegro.
Location
At the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, One&Only Portonovi has an exceptional location. Portonovi itself is quickly established as Montenegro’s new jet-set hangout, a big new luxury village with high end apartments, shops and the marina with yachts. There’s privacy and exclusivity here, so you can have a very tranquil seaside holiday. But you can quickly drive or sail in the bay, perhaps visit nearby Kotor or Perast. Dubrovnik isn’t too far north but with border formalities and traffic it’s not necessarily an easy day trip. Fly to Tivat airport and it’s a one-hour transfer by road to the hotel, or a 30-minute speedboat transfer with your luggage arriving later by car.
Rooms
Opulence dominates, from the marble lobby to the huge windows that provide sea views from almost everywhere. Rooms are spacious, with a bathroom as big as the open-plan bedroom. Different room categories have the same layout and differ only by view - Panoramic Bayview rooms are the best. Suites are a step up, with more private relaxation and entertainment spaces, each of them individually designed. The two signature villas have their own pool and garden, but no beach! We think there’s better value in the resort’s privately-owned three- and four-bedroom homes. These have their own small beach, garden and jetty, an amazing option for families.

Facilities & activities
The Chenot Espace medical spa is a destination in its own right and offers multi-day wellness packages. The bay itself is amazing and best seen and trips on the water are a great way to spend your time, whether locally with the resort’s kayaks and SUPs, or further along the coast in a speed boat or yacht charter. The sandy beach is private and the pools are superb. Dining is excellent too, including the nice beachfront ambience at Italian restaurant Sabia - go there for sunset! - plus Japanese Tapasake and local specialities in La Veranda.
