Last Minute Europe: Itinerary Ideas

Sometimes the world offers too many travel choices. It’s like opening Spotify or Netflix when you don’t have a clear idea of what to listen or watch

You could go anywhere. So where do you even start?

Here are ten unique itineraries to get you going, from jetting off to Venice or the English countryside for a weekend, to two weeks of sun and sea in somewhere new.

Sicilian Baroque

Sicily holds so many secrets

Ah, Sicily. One of Europe’s trendiest destinations at the moment, not least due to the The White Lotus series.

You may be put off Sicily because of its popularity. Beach town Taormina certainly isn’t a private place to spend a week on the beach.

Sicily is big and most the island is very authentic. So how about spending five to seven days discovering the beauty of Sicilian baroque? This itinerary tours the beautiful mountain and coastal towns across the island’s south.

Montenegro

Tara River Canyon, hidden deep in Montenegro’s interior

Montenegro is trending too. In fact, it was our top travel trend of 2022, thanks to outstanding new accommodation like One&Only Portonovi.

It’s not the best destination if you only want sunbathing and swimming this summer. Montenegro is an adventure destination in Europe.

How do you spend a few days in Montenegro? We created this long weekend itinerary for a client, which includes the country’s traditional places and activities on the sea.

Iceland in Summer

Deplar Farm is the best luxury hotel in Iceland

Many Czech people are benefiting from the new direct flight connection between Prague and Reykjavik. Iceland is incredibly popular this summer and we’ve created many different itineraries for our clients.

Iceland makes wild adventure easy, especially for families. Nowhere else can you try so many new experiences, without really leaving your own comfort zone.

How many days do you need for Iceland? How do you explore? We identified four different ways to approach an Iceland holiday, dependent on your interests and the time you have.

A Villa in Formentera

Villa Paz Formentera

Perhaps a private villa on the coast is more your style? So Mykonos? Corsica? A castle in Mallorca?

How about the Balearic island of Formentera? It’s prettier, less developed and a lot quieter than its famous sister island Ibiza.

Ultimately, Ibiza is a mass tourism destination. Formentera goes under the radar and has some stunning villas for a family stay.

24 Hours in Venice

Your suite, your private view onto Venice at Belmond Hotel Cipriani
Your suite, your private view onto Venice

Venice is a glorious destination becoming famous for being overcrowded. It’s still very authentic and you can easily escape the crowds.

We created this 24-hour itinerary in Venice. It’s for leaving the children at home and getting all romantic with your beau.

Stay at Belmond Cipriani, enjoy sunrise in the city, explore with a Venetian writer and have lunch in a hidden Burano garden. Then the adventure continues…

Sailing the Croatian Coast

Want to explore the Dalmatian Coast in a sail yacht?

Croatia is another glorious destination famous for mass tourism. But the country is changing, with stunning new five-star properties like Maslina Resort and Villa Nai 3.3.

Few coastlines in the world can rival Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. Spectacular, unique and highly private too.

With a private yacht charter you don’t need to see another tourist in Croatia. You can explore hidden places that only the boat skippers know about.

Unsurpassed Spain

Mijas, a white village in Andalusia

We recommend avoiding July and August for a holiday in Southern Spain. September and October are absolutely perfect, thanks to the weather, lack of crowds and authenticity.

Try this 12-day holiday in Andalusia which mixes beach days, Spanish traditions, historic sights and nature.

Did you know there’s a luxury train like the Orient Express in Spain? It’s a country with a lot of surprises and a lot of interesting places to explore, far beyond the mass tourism beach hangouts.

Basque

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Basque Country

Basque is one of these and it is best visited in summer. Basque feels like its own distinct country, with its own language, history and food. Here are seven reasons why you should visit.

Do you know about San Sebastian? About the evening culture of eating pintxos? Did you ever research Bilbao as a destination?

Basque is packed with unique holiday experiences, from wine tasting and Michelin dining, to the Guggenheim and remote beaches.

English Countryside Retreat

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, a Belmond Hotel

An unexpected weekend that’s super convenient and extremely luxurious. Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in the Oxfordshire countryside, only 45 minutes from London Heathrow.

In a postcard-perfect village of rolling greens and honey-coloured houses, this indulgent property features 32 rooms all designed in a completely different style. And this estate has many experiences to travel for.

Like a full day at the Raymond Blanc Cookery School, or the seven-course taster menu in the restaurant, which has continually held two Michelin stars for 39 years. A gardening school (most the restaurant food is grown on site) and tasting in England’s best regarded wine cellar. Here’s the English countryside weekend itinerary.

Portugal

Porto, so much riverside colour and charm

Portugal offers a lot of everything. City, beach, wine, spa, history…it can be many different holidays in one. Perhaps that is too much choice for you.

Here’s the ultimate week in Portugal, an itinerary we prepared for a client to Lisbon, the Douro Valley and Porto.

And here’s how to spend two weeks in Portugal, this time travelling from Lisbon south, to Alentejo and the Algarve.
