Spring Holiday Ideas

It’s not too late to plan your getaway during the February or Easter school holidays!

Do you prefer a new and memorable experience to do together as a family?

Or a resort with different experiences for different people and personalities in your family?

We have ideas for everyone as we give our recommendations for the February holidays. Many of these ideas will be great at Easter time too!

Family Adventure with Older Kids – Finnish Lapland

A dogsledding safari

Finnish Lapland is great because you can enjoy lots of new and memorable experiences together.

Like sledding with husky dogs and a reindeer safari across a vast frozen lake.

A family adventure beneath the northern lights

You can try ice fishing, drive snowmobiles through the wilderness, and spend evenings searching for the northern lights.

What’s especially nice is that you do these experiences in private. Lapland is a great place for spending quality time as a family. You have so much space and such a sense of freedom.

It’s remarkably beautiful, as well as being cold. Negative temperatures and adventurous activities make Lapland challenging with young kids, but it’s a really unique family holiday with teenagers and children as young as eight.

In Lapland we typically recommend a private villa. We can arrange them in remote locations all across the Arctic wilderness, including services like a private chef and driver.

Levi Spirit by Vanajanlinna is a boutique resort with nine villas, combining the exclusivity and benefits of a villa, with the facilities of an Arctic resort. And the location is ideal for all the main winter Lapland activities.

Beach Holiday With Small Kids – Maldives

Villa at Soneva Fushi

Many of you reading will already know the charms of a Maldives beach holiday with small kids, especially in February.

Qatar Airways currently has the best connection times from Prague and the business class is very good. Emirates is of course another option.

Some families may prefer driving to Vienna and flying direct Vienna to Malé with Austrian Airlines. Departing Vienna 19:50, arriving Malé 08:50. Returning from Malé 10:25, arriving Vienna 16:20. Note there are no departures from Vienna on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or from Malé on Wednesdays or Fridays.

With all these options you arrive and depart in daylight hours, so you can travel to your resort by speedboat or seaplane. Our current favourites include:

Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands – Smart and sophisticated resort with excellent service and very modern villas. Plus one of the best kids clubs we’ve seen. It’s Montessori style, with no plastic toys (everything wooden instead), lots of interesting activities, plus a kids pool and climbing wall.

Patina Maldives – Fun and contemporary resort with a really nice white beach and good beach villas for families. We’ve found the resort’s youthful approach and atmosphere really suits families. A great kids club and some superb dining options across the island too.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi – Two large islands creating one resort, with the widest range of things to do and places to dine in the Maldives. Ideal for a family with varied interests.

This aerial of Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi gives an idea of just how large the resort is

JOALI Maldives – A smaller island with spectacular villas and service. JOALI really makes you feel at home and provides a very relaxing environment for a February beach holiday.

Soneva Fushi – Barefoot vibe and rustic villas. A kids club with water slides, lego room, music room and other activities. We love it for families because there’s so much space for kids to run around and play.

Mother Daughter Getaway – Dubai

Paris is the obvious choice for a mother and daughter weekend getaway. See the sights, relax in a nice hotel and spa, pick from hundreds of experiences to do together.

Dubai offers the same. With the advantage of fantastic weather, beaches and outdoor swimming pools. And it’s also only a direct flight away.

Dubai is such a fun and dynamic city. It’s a place for treating yourself, where the service usually does make you feel very special (not always the case in Paris).

You can happily spend half of each day relaxing at the beach or by the pool. Then go out and do something together, from shopping to water parks, desert experiences to interactive museums and galleries.

Resorts have good kids clubs too, for when you want me time on top of the mother and daughter time. Among our favourites for a mother daughter getaway are:

Mandarin Oriental, Jumeirah – Excellent for a first-time visit to Dubai, with a nice beach, lovely pool, and easy access to downtown, Burj Khalifa and the shopping malls.

Main pool at Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah

Atlantis The Royal – Super stylish and far more private than neighbouring Atlantis, The Palm, with complementary access to the big family attractions on the Palm.

The Sky Pool Villas at Atlantis The Royal accommodate two adults and two children

One&Only Royal Mirage – Location is the key advantage of this One&Only, which can be a nice value option. It’s on the beach, but also at The Marina, meaning many places are walkable. Just about anywhere in Dubai is easily accessible by car too.

Cultural Adventure for Families – Morocco

Morocco is vibrant, colourful, authentic and artistic. Families are often put off, believing the country will be too hectic and stressful, especially with children.

Children are revered in Morocco. We’ve found travel in Morocco to be much calmer with children than without. This is a relaxing family destination!

In Morocco you don’t need to go out and seek a cultural experience. It’s all around you, in the warmth of the people, architecture style, Arabic design, excellent food, souks and cafes.

For a first time trip to Morocco you can easily spend a week in Marrakech. We recommend staying at a resort on the edge of the city.

In a city with many excellent accommodations, Royal Mansour Marrakech is the very best choice. You’ll stay in your own private multi-floor riad, in Morocco’s most prestigious urban resort. True Moroccan style and service, but complete privacy and close proximity to city attractions.

Oberoi Marrakech is a nice alternative. It’s further away from the city but has charming family villas with private pool.

Some families may prefer to combine Marrakech with a second, smaller destination. Consider Kasbah Tamadot by Virgin Limited Edition for two days in the mountains, learning about Berber culture.

Austrian Airlines now operates direct flights between Vienna and Marrakech, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, at 10:10.

Father Son Football City Trip (also for entire families)

Football makes a great focal point when creating a city trip with your kids, particularly for some father son bonding, but also as a whole family on holiday together.

Rather than doing a stadium tour, experience the atmosphere and take your kids to go see their football heroes live. We can arrange VIP tickets for virtually any European football fixture. Some nice options in February are:

  • Madrid: Saturday 8th February – Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid / Saturday 22nd February Real Madrid vs Girona
  • Rome: Sunday 16th February – Lazio vs Napoli
  • London: Saturday 15th February – Tottenham vs Manchester United / Tuesday 25th February Tottenham vs Manchester City

Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid

Also note that the Champions League knockout phase play-offs will be played on 11/12 & 18/19 February 2025, although we won’t know the fixtures until late January.

We will than build an itinerary around the football, with experiences that make a big city really fun for kids.

Did you know you can be a gladiator for a day in Rome? Or do a treasure hunt in Madrid’s Prado Museum? What about a spooky tour underground a city, like the Catacombs in Paris?

Tell us the match you want to watch and what your kids like. We’ll plan an itinerary that excites both parents and children.

Driving to the Austrian Alps

The classic. Loading the car and driving across the border to Austria and a stay in the Alps. Flexible, easy and often an optimal use of time.

If you’re looking specifically for February ski holidays then also check out the best ski-in ski-out hotels and chalets within driving distance of Prague.

With or without the skis a few hotels always get great feedback from families travelling at this time of year.

Schlosshotel Fiss – Spa resort for families with ski-in ski-out access and tons more things to do. We love the attention to detail at this owner-operated property. And there are nice chalet apartments for families.

Schlosshotel Fiss

Naturshotel Forsthofgut – A family-owned hotel that mixes alpine tradition with contemporary design and style. We particularly like the waldSPA Family & Kids

Das Edelweiss Salzburg – A great choice for active families, with lots of activities in the surrounding mountains. Plus water slides, swimming pools, spa and superb restaurants.
