If you want to just walk out and be directly in the centre of San Sebastian, Akelarre might not be the best option. But if you want peace and quiet, sweeping views over the sea, and a contemporary style — and you don’t mind a 15-drive to get to bars and restaurants in the town centre — then this is just the place for you.
Stay at Akelarre
Savour complex, exquisite dishes, while gazing on the sunset that sets the Bay of Biscay on fire. When you retire to your rooms, you will want to linger in the bathtub — the view is as relaxing as the bath itself. If you want to stroll around San Sebastian, a short drive will take you there. On your return, try the Basque-inspired dishes in the other restaurant on the floor below.
Location
Akelarre sits on the hillside overlooking the sea, a 15-minute drive from San Sebastian. San Sebastian Airport is 35 minutes away. However, as it’s not an international airport, you might prefer to fly into Biarritz in France (50 minutes away), or into Bilbao in Spain (1h20).
Rooms
You will have lots of space and light. All rooms have views of the sea — and most bathrooms do as well. As regards design, this is by far the most interesting accommodation in San Sebastian.
Who is it for
This is a great lodging for adults who like boutique hotels. You will particularly enjoy it if you are a foodie, a wine lover, or an enthusiast for contemporary design.
Facilities & activities
The highlight is the Akelarre, a 3 Michelin-star restaurant that has existed since before the hotel was there, and which we definitely recommend from our personal experience. The spa includes a steam room and sauna.
