Areias do Seixo

If wild coastlines, quiet stillness and sustainability in luxurious surroundings is your thing, you can’t find much better than the Areias do Seixo hotel. It’s the sort of hotel we dream of when we want to get away from it all.

Stay at Areias do Seixo

Walking back from the shifting sand dunes and the wild Atlantic coastline, the scent of pine trees in the air, you spy the Areias do Seixo hotel through the woods, lighting your path. This is like a hug of a hotel, where sustainability rubs shoulders with incredible surroundings. Think renewable energy heating your room with its bare wooden floorboards and suspended fireplace. Think organic kitchen gardens overlooking an infinity pool.We consider this hotel one of the most stylish in the world, with its glass, concrete, wood and steel structures that houses the very embodiment of relaxation and luxury.

Location

Just 40 minutes drive north of Lisbon, and a 10 minute walk to the Atlantic that smashes against the rugged shoreline in this part of Portugal. Don’t expect to see too many people, this is a get-away-from-it-all kind of location. If it’s bright lights you seek, you might want to find a Lisbon-based hotel instead.

Rooms

Delightful, as you would expect from an architecture-forward hotel. Each of the 14 rooms are decorated in one of four themes that reflect the sustainability efforts of the hotel - Gold, Land, Tree and Love. Expect huge wall-filled windows, fireplaces, plenty of natural fabrics and textures (think pebbles, trees and wood), as chic as you like. Every room comes with a patio for those evening drinks.

Who is it for

This is a hotel made for couples. No kids under 10 are allowed (although there are some family-friendly villas dotted in the grounds and the pool can be used by supervised kids in the mornings).

Facilities & activities

An infinity pool that overlooks the hotel’s kitchen gardens. A spa boasting Asian treatments, sauna and a Turkish bath. The most unusual activity here is that guests can get involved in the hotel’s organic gardens, picking vegetables for dinner, or mussels from the nearby beach. A truly hands-on experience. And let’s not forget the excellent restaurant whose emphasis naturally lies with creatively executed, locally sourced food.
