Stay at the Santa Caterina
The passage of time has a way of making all things feel natural, we’re sure when Giuseppe Gambardella laid the first stone in 1880 the building stood out for miles around. But now tumbling down the cliff face from one of the world’s most romantic drives to the water's edge so natural and comfortable is the Hotel Santa Caterina setting that it feels like it was borne from the rock itself rather than built on top.Serving guests for well over a century Giuseppe's family and their loyal team have extended and refurbished, remodelled and redesigned, but have never forgotten the most important thing, high-quality guest-centred service is worth its weight in gold.
Set over terraced levels high on the clifftop tumbling down to the water. Direct sea access which is quite unusual for luxury hotels here on the Amalfi coast. A short car or boat transfer along the coast to the town of Amalfi, close enough to enjoy the buzz but far enough to escape the crowds.
66 rooms and suites, all of which are generously sized and many with terraces and balconies offering sublime views. As one of the grand dame’s of the Amalfi Coast, the rooms are definitely grand but compared to the competition they could do with a bit of a spruce up.
Who is it for
The Amalfi Coast is a grown-up destination, perfect for couples, and the Hotel Santa Caterina is no different. However, kids are welcomed and catered for here. The steep cliffside location however is definitely not suitable for very little ones.
Amenities & Activities
The brilliant “beach” club, with bathing platforms at the water's edge and heated saltwater swimming pool, accessed by an elevator buried into the cliff. The fabulous Al Mare restaurant. A small gym, and a small but perfectly formed spa, offering all the treatments you could desire in rather confined quarters.
