One of the Maldives’ original luxury resorts continues to deliver time-honoured quality and sophistication. It’s an idyllic and understated resort, with fabulous wellness facilities and charming timber-framed villas. Don’t let its age fool you. COMO Cocoa feels fresh and is a very good choice for couples.
Stay at COMO Cocoa Island
Watch the ocean ripple from your private pool. Lounge in a floral bath. Wander on an exposed white sandbank. Feel the tranquillity of island life and settle into one of the luxury resorts that made the Maldives such a known destination. Shifting sands and changing tides make this a magical place for couples, yet there’s more than just lying around your overwater villa. Snorkel, dive, do sunset yoga and fully make use of the Shambhala wellness facilities. COMO Cocoa does have some of the most beautiful villas in the Maldives, so you’ll be back to the absolute privacy of your accommodation soon enough.
Location
There are pros and cons of being just a 40-minute speedboat ride from Male’s airport, notably the convenience. As one of the country’s first luxury resorts, COMO Cocoa chose a prime location. It’s rare to find such a spectacularly large beach and house reefs so close to the capital. However, this isn’t the quietest location and development on nearby islands mean the vistas are not pristine in every direction.
Rooms
Recently remodelled, the 34 overwater villas are superb, a blueprint in understated luxury. Some have private pools and the smaller Dhoni Water Villa cabins are charmingly shaped like traditional boats. Crafted almost exclusively from wood, the villas feel contemporary without going over the top on opulence.
Who is it for
Definitely a couple’s retreat, a honeymoon-style property with a focus on wellness and spending time in your villa. Good for marine life as well.
Facilities & activities
At low tide the small island extends to over a kilometre of the purest white sand. At high tide it’s lovely to listen to the waves under your villa. Two house reefs are home to sharks, rays and lots of life, while over a dozen good dive sites are within a 30-minute boat ride. The wellness facilities are excellent although the bar and restaurant offerings are very limited compared to other island resorts, so look elsewhere if you want a different restaurant experience every day.
