Location
The centre of Funchal is 20 minutes by foot and the airport is a 25 minute drive away. But in the stillness of the quinta’s grounds, you’d never know how near civilization is.
Rooms
The word boutique comes to mind. 5 luxurious suites in the main 18th century manor house, and a further 43 rooms in a modern steel and glass wing with huge floor to ceiling windows looking out onto acres of grounds. This traditional vs modern aesthetic continues with the manor house suites being filled with antique furniture and marble bathrooms, whilst rooms in the steel and glass rooms are modern and light-filled. Excellence comes as standard.
Who is it for
The hotel has ‘couple’s retreat’ written all over it, with the quiet location and peaceful activities. We’d not recommend it for families because aside from the pool, there’s not much here to keep kids entertained.
Facilities & activities
The activities largely centre around relaxation, from the outdoor pool surrounded with scented bougainvillea, to the well stocked library in the manor house. Of course, expect a health club and spa with state of the art equipment, whirlpool and sauna. This is Madeira and they’re proud of their British heritage, so expect a stellar afternoon tea. For the adventurous, you can even sign up to irrigate the hotel’s banana plantation. What other hotel in the world can give you that experience!
