Welcome to the land of chocolate and cheese, where tastes are rich but the Swiss spirit is richer. This is the perfect skiing destination, but that’s certainly not all it’s got in store. Watch frosted landscapes bewitch and glide past, aboard the Glacier Express. Wake beside the mighty Matterhorn, before an exclusive pamper and retail spree. Expect divine dining sprawled in Alpine glamour. Immersive behind the scenes history tours alluringly await.

Getting here and around

Nestled in the heart of Europe, many visitors arrive by car or train. Those flying in typically land in Zurich or Geneva. While these are the main hubs, smaller airports serving private jets are plentiful and convenient for reaching more remote Alpine hideaways. Trains are modern, fast and comfortable for moving around within Switzerland. The Glacier Express is particularly scenic. Private car rentals are good for travelling on your own terms. Boat transport across the Swiss lakes comes with incredibly picturesque views.

Climate & seasons

The climate here is similar to that of other Alpine countries. Late May to early October is great for summer activities. December till April is ideal for skiing, though it does get especially busy on the slopes in February due to the school holidays.

Where to go

There is something to be found in every corner of the country, however the Alps is easily one of the biggest attractions. In regards to ski resort towns, St Moritz comes with cosmopolitan glamour. Zermatt offers sensational backdrops of the Matterhorn. Saas-Fee holds one of the longest ski seasons in Europe, and Verbier is perfect for freeride skiers. Meanwhile, Geneva boasts superb luxury hotels, sublime Michelin-star restaurants and a gorgeous lake. The lake towns of Lucerne or Lugano are quaint and also worth a visit.
