Stay at Carlton Hotel St. Moritz

Marble fireplaces and crystal chandeliers. Venetian stucco ceilings and Murano glass lamps. Contemporary bling and vast bathrooms with loads more marble. It’s not called a palace but you feel like an aristocrat at Carlton St Moritz, the only hotel to rival Badrutt’s Palace in St Moritz. With just 60 suites it feels relatively small, even if the double height ceilings and lavish amenities suggest otherwise. Here you have one of Switzerland’s best bars and best restaurants, plus an outdoor butler to tailor your experience in the mountain surroundings. Spa? Oh, it’s magnificent, especially the private couple’s spa suite. Sustainable? Well this will surprise you, because Carlton St Moritz is the only climate neutral hotel in the resort town.

Location

A little out of town so go for Badrutt’s if you want to be very centrally located. The hotel provides a shuttle service to the main Corviglia Cable Car station for accessing the pistes, plus transfers in a chauffeured Bentley.

Rooms

Everything evokes grandeur and the decor may dazzle with a little bit too much bling for some. However, we unanimously like the new-world style and how it balances the original early 20th-century building (it was built for and is still inspired by Russian tsars). It’s an all-suite concept, each individually decorated in a vast range of colours and hues, with marble bathrooms and balconies.

Who is it for

A good alternative to Badrutt’s Palace which will favour travellers who like a little over the top decor and contemporary design. Good if you’re big on sustainable travel and also good for families. The one-bedroom suites have pull-out beds for kids, plus there’s a kids’ club and amenities for teenagers.

Facilities & activities

Carlton St Moritz may be a little away from the ski lifts and centre of town, but people staying at other hotels come here to use the amenities. Like two-Michelin-starred restaurant Da Vittorio and Carlton Bar&Bel Etag, the place to be seen with a cocktail in all of St Moritz. The spa is spread across three floors and has private areas.
