While there are certainly hotels with a higher standard of service on the lake, those will come with a much greater price tag too. The Hotel Villa Cortine Palace will tick a lot of boxes for couples looking to spend some time in opulent and stately surroundings.
Stay at Villa Cortine
As the imposing wrought iron gates swing open and you make your way through manicured parkland and toward the stately splendour of this once stately home your attention is divided between the sumptuous grandeur of your surroundings and the shimmering beauty of the lake behind. Don’t worry, there’s no rush. Take your time, allow it all to seep in.With imposing Doric columns holding up a fabulous portico-façade, a Neptune fountain bubbling luxuriously in the entranceway, and public rooms with elaborate frescos – it can be hard to believe that Hotel Villa Cortine Palace is open for guests and not the private playground of an ageing aristocrat.
Location
Just a five-minute walk from the centre of the beguiling peninsula and spa town of Sirmione. The hotel has a private bathing jetty, which in summer allows direct swimming access to the pristine waters of Lake Garda. It’s about a 50-minute drive to Verona airport.
Rooms
54 spacious and elegantly furnished one-bedroom rooms inside a Neo-classical 1870 villa. Opting for a room on a higher floor is highly recommended; the views of the lake are much preferable.
Who is it for
Couples who are looking for a very traditional stay in opulent and refined environs. In such grown-up surroundings guests with children may be at a loss for entertainment.
Facilities & activities
Five acres of sumptuous grounds, a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, a private jetty for swimming, and access to water skiing and windsurfing. The hotel’s lack of a gym, spa and indoor pool should be noted.
