Explore Grand Hotel Timeo
Sometimes life isn’t fair. Sometimes the dice are loaded. Other hotels in Sicily must feel they are playing against a crooked deck when competing with the Belmond Grand Timeo. Not because of any underhanded action by the Grand Old Dame of the island’s luxury scene, but by the sheer unrivalled magnificent of the hotel’s dramatic setting. Not content with sitting on the toes of a third-century BC Greek amphitheatre and overlooking the undeniably romantic red-tiled rooftops of a medieval Taormina. The Grand Timeo has one of the world’s finest panoramas ahead. The sweeping coastline, the shimmering sea and the imposing majesty of Mt Etna. It truly is spectacular, and it's no surprise European glitterati have been feasting their eyes upon it since the hotel opened its doors well over a century ago.
Set in landscaped gardens overlooking the charming terracotta rooftops of ancient Taormina. The hotel is secluded in its spacious gardens but still just metres from the action of Corso Umberto, Taormina’s main walking street. The hotel is about an hour from Catania Airport and 3 from Palermo.
70 rooms and suites shared between the main building and the nearby Villa Flora. Expect old-world opulence rather than cutting-edge contemporary design. Most come with superlative views as standard but to be absolutely sure opt for a suite with a private terrace.
Who is it for
Those who want old-fashioned stately luxury of the highest order but want to still benefit from proximity to the energy of the town. Spa and golf addicts may be better suited at the Verdura and beach bums at Sant’ Andrea but few will be disappointed by a stay here. Guests should note that the Grand Timeo is a seasonal property, closing from November through March.
