Grand Hotel et de Milan

Perfect for opera lovers! An historic and somewhat old fashioned family-run hotel near La Scala, where Giuseppe Verdi lived for 29 years. Not many amenities but very good service and a complete immersion in an older, elegant time.

Stay at Grand Hotel et de Milan

Marble bathrooms, parquet floors, high ceilings and rich fabrics. Welcome to one of Milan’s oldest hotels, open for over 150 years in the heart of the city. Giuseppe Verdi lived here for almost 30 years and the sense of history is palpable, from the period furniture to a wine cellar built around a Roman wall from 250 AD. With its location next to La Scala and classical atmosphere, this is the perfect choice if you want to experience the opera.

Location

Two minutes from La Scala and Duomo, with the Fashion District to one side and Brera to the other. You can’t get more central than this in Milan.

Rooms

Don’t expect anything new or contemporary. Grand Hotel et de Milan honours history and many people will find it old fashioned, even if the quality is very high. There are three room styles - Liberty, Art Deco or Neoclassical. Rooms on the first and second floors have marvellous high ceilings.

Who is it for

A prime choice if you like historic hotels. Even better if you like the opera or theatre, as the hotel also has Gerry’s Bar, the most popular post-theatre drinks venue. If you’re visiting Milan for modern fashion or prefer new hotels, don’t stay here.

Facilities & activities

Amenities are very limited, especially for a five-star hotel. But the hotel’s operatic history opens up some unique insights, as you see where Verdi lived and composed, then have an experience at La Scala.
