Stay at North Island
Three startlingly powder-sand beaches peek out from palm-fringed slopes, whilst undulating granite peaks entertain the skyline. This vast natural paradise is your private playground and you're very unlikely to encounter any of the other few guests. It was the honeymoon destination of the Clooneys and Prince William and Kate, its the guestbook is filled with countless other A-listers, an indication of the privacy, seclusion and exclusivity. It's not a classic luxury island resort, it's an island of raw wilderness where you create your own holiday.
Location
As good as it gets. A private island only accessible by a 20-minute helicopter transfer northward – hence the name – from the main island Mahé. The island is fringed by its own dive sites, fishing spots and postcard-perfect turquoise waters.
Rooms
Just 11 villas are hidden amid the jungle along a long beach on one side of the island. They are enormous, with vast living spaces, a large private garden, instant access to the sand yet complete privacy in all directions. Don't expect modern opulence. Rustic chic is the vibe and you won't see concrete anywhere. These villas are designed to complete your connection with nature, emphasising outdoor living and natural materials. Each sprawls across a wooden deck, featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, outdoor pool and many places to hang out. Villa 11 is even larger and has a slightly different layout across multiple levels. It's also the only one that is visible from the beach.
Who is it for
Pick this resort for breathtaking nature and exclusivity. Over 200 tortoises roam the island and over 500 turtle nests are found every season. The beaches are always empty, places for private dining are endless, and you can do just about anything, whenever you want. Although this suggests North Island is a place for couples seeking isolation, it's also a good choice for families seeking isolation and quality time together.
Facilities & activities
This isn't a standard resort with various outlets. Every villa has a private butler and the chefs customise menus to every guest. Activities include superb scuba diving and deep-sea fishing, cruises on one of their yachts, kayaking, paddle boarding, or simply enjoying your own beach for the day. North Island is big enough for half a day of hiking through the jungle and on granite peaks. You can easily spend each day somewhere else on the island and still not see another guest after a week.
