Welcome to COMO Maalifushi on the remote Thaa Atoll, a retreat embodying the fairytale promise of the Maldives. Think tropical unpretentious villas above the ocean or on the white sand. Feeling good about doing nothing, but also choosing to go fishing, snorkelling, to the spa or the kids clubs. Spending one day at COMO Maalifushi is impressive. Spending a week is an immersion in dreamy downtime.

Location

This is one of the furthest resorts from Male, a full one hour by seaplane from the capital. Blissfully remote and entirely surrounded by coral, this southern island has a stunning beach, great diving and little to ruin the ocean vistas.

Rooms

Clean lines, fresh hues and a tropical interpretation of minimalism. The villas aren’t the most eye-catching or Instagram trendy, but they are well appointed and spacious. They slip into the background, enabling the beautiful surrounding nature to take centrestage. Ignore the garden rooms and basic beach suites. We prefer the beach villas and water villas, which offer private pools and more premium locations. The two-bedroom suites can also be a good option for families.

Who is it for

While couples will have a great holiday here, outside the school holidays, the resort is best geared to families. There’s a really good kids club and the villas are well designed to accommodate families.

Facilities & activities

We love the resort’s serene atmosphere and calm mix of activities for all ages. From the Como Shambhala Spa to the kids club, the open-air restaurant to marine activities, nothing breaks the mood. It’s a great resort for snorkellers and divers, with nighttime whale shark swimming just one unique option. The service is top notch as well.
