Stay at LUX* Grand Baie

White sand, sparkling Indian Ocean waters and palm trees. The setting will be familiar to anyone who knows the island’s beautiful northern coast. But this new flagship resort from LUX* also has real capacity to surprise. Kelly Hoppen’s sleek and modernist design is quick to impress, inspired by old Mauritian sailboats. We’d describe the other LUX* hotels as a good five-star standard suitable for just about everyone. LUX* Grand Baie is smaller, more boutique and higher in quality.

Location

With prime beachfront location in Grand Baie, there’s the tranquillity you crave but also the buzz of a fishing village turned millionaires’ hangout. It’s just down the beach from Royal Palm Beachcomber and a comfortable location for a full range of holiday styles, from island exploration to a purely beach and resort trip.

Rooms

It’s the smallest LUX* property but that still means 86 junior suites and 30 villas, so it’s definitely not small. The three highest category accommodations are the most interesting, all of which come with a private butler service. Spread across 325 sqm, LUX* Pool Penthouses have three bedrooms, a private pool, living and dining room. LUX* Pool Villas also have a private pool and sundeck, with two bedrooms and 230 sqm of space.

Who is it for

In general we find LUX* properties are best for families. At Grand Baie, there is a LUX* Juniors Play program for kids aged three to 12 years. Certainly, the pool villas and penthouses are all about a leisurely beach resort holiday with the whole family. However, the hotel has an underground nightclub and the adults-only infinity pool and roof bar Bisou, so the appeal is wider than travelling with kids.

Three restaurants, multiple pools and bars, the ever-inviting beach and plenty of spa facilities. Then programs for kids, water sports and exploring the island. As with all LUX* properties, there is a full range of good five-star amenities to satisfy everyone.
