Opposites attract. Like lake and mountains. Stately grandeur from yesteryear and a new spa for tomorrow. A hideaway in the Alps, best in summer, not winter. Privacy that’s close to home.
Just some juxtapositions and reasons why Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden in Austria may really surprise you.
Exploring Carinthia in Summer
Ready to Explore Austria?
It’s true that Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden is close to ski resorts in Austria, Slovenia and Italy. This isn’t a ski-in ski-out property though and for long days on the slopes you’ll be better elsewhere. Like the new Bergwiesenglueck boutique chalets?
Actually, this hotel on Lake Worthersee, in sunny Carinthia in the southern Alps. Carinthia is Austria’s most autonomous state and it feels different to the rest of the country. Especially in summer.
You’ll find a traditionally summer tourist appeal, from golf courses to medieval towns, clear waters for swimming and mountains for exploring. Plus a lot a privacy. There’s really not much else here, except this adult-focused resort.
Introducing Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden
Directly on the lakeshore and recently renewed, we love this hotel’s sense of both past and present. At one glance it’s a country estate from yesteryear. Yet most of the architecture is modern, best exemplified by the spa.
At 3600 sqm, the Acquapura SPA is the place for slow days. It has its own exclusive beach club with a heater lake water pool, private spa suites and saunas, a water relaxation room with a cinema, and is host to yoga and meditation retreats.
Rooms and suites have also been revitalised recently. For the past we especially like the Turm suites, located in the rounded castle turrets (the Seeblick suite is also in the historical castle). The grand deluxe rooms and junior suite deluxe are in the modern building, with bathrooms framing the historical view.

From Prague it’s six hours by road. The best airport to use is Klagenfurt, but Prague to Klagenfurt is a two-stop, 17-hour commercial flight. So why not fly in a Cessna Mustang instead? Or charter a Beechjet 400A or Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign?
