Don’t expect a crystal-clear sea and soft sand — beaches in Spain are not the same as those in Greece, let alone in Maldives. However, if you love the Mediterranean and want to enjoy it with your family, this is one of the best places on the whole of continental Spain.
Stay at Kempinski Bahía
Play with your children on the beach all morning. In the afternoon, take them exploring vast gardens, and discover together the story of the 16th-century tower that overlooks the breakfast terrace and the sea. If that sounds exhausting, why not let them have fun in the kids’ club, while you enjoy a warm-sand massage in the spa, or simply chill by the adults’ pool?
Location
The hotel sits directly on the beach, a 10-minute drive east of the town of Estepona, and one hour from Málaga airport.
Rooms
The rooms are decent, but nothing spectacular — contemporary design, comfort, and at least partial views of the gardens and the sea.
Who is it for
We especially recommend this hotel to families. It has all that kids need — a nice beach, two swimming pools, the grounds are great for exploring, the kids’ club offers many activities, and you can get interconnecting rooms. The location is also good for families — it’s some way off from the busy Marbella party scene, so it’s quite calm. However, couples looking for a boutique stay with fresh and unique design and proximity to the nightlife scene will definitely be disappointed.
Facilities & activities
You can do water sports, and play tennis in the hotel courts. There are 3 good outdoor pools, one of which is adult-only. We recommend doing a day trip to Tarifa, which is about 1 hour away by car. On the way there, you can take a look at the Gibraltar rock. (We don’t recommend going to Gibraltar itself — it’s dull, and Spanish cars are not allowed across the border, so you will need to change cars, which is time-consuming.)
