When people ask us for the best place to stay in the Seychelles, we first need to understand who they are and what they want from their holiday.
Each Seychelles island offers a distinct experience. There are some outstanding resorts and each is best suited to a different visitor. So we don’t rank them from one to six. Here is why we recommend these six resorts to specific clients.
For privacy seekers – North Island
North Island is not the best luxury resort in the Seychelles. It’s famous as a honeymoon destination for celebrities like the Clooneys, but you’ll find better quality accommodation elsewhere.
The major advantages of this large island are privacy, nature, stunning beaches and space. There are only 11 villas and 10 of these are “presidential” villas, each over 450 sqm. We prefer villa 11 at the end of the beach, as it’s the largest and most private. However, the accommodation does require refurbishment.
Still, we do like North Island’s approach to all-inclusive. Everything is included, like deep sea fishing, diving, personalised dining and privatising a beach.
For couples – Anantara Maia
For a romantic escape in the Seychelles we love Anantara Maia. It’s a boutique all-villa resort where the atmosphere is defined by privacy and nature. The villas are a higher standard than North Island.
If you want lazy days around a private pool, overlooking the Indian Ocean, this is it. Highly personalised butler service is included too.
For the best sunsets go for one of the smaller villas, located higher on the cliffs. Larger villas have the advantage of even more space and direct beach access. However, the beach is not private and not as good as the beach at Four Seasons, plus there’s only one restaurant at Anantara Maia.
For families – Four Seasons Resort Seychelles
Alongside Anantara Maia, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles is the other premier choice on Mahé island. It’s also a place to hide away, in a beautiful cliffside villa with a private pool. And the beach is simply stunning!
We love Four Seasons Resort Seychelles for their curated program of experiences for all ages, making a holiday as active or relaxed as you need, whatever your age.
Four Seasons also have a private island resort, on Desroches Island, where all villas have private pools and direct beach access. It’s a fantastic option for more adventurous families, in the Outer Islands archipelago.
We recommend combining Desroches Island with a stay on Mahé island. This makes travel between the islands more flexible and convenient, as well as creating two contrasting experiences.
For adventurers and marine explorers – Alphonse Island
Don’t go to Alphonse Island for the accommodation. Nor the spa or dining. Go to Alphonse Island for some of the world’s very best marine experiences.
This is the largest of the 72 outer islands in Seychelles, a full one-hour flight from Mahé. It’s remote, off-grid, comfortable and unique.
Imagine kayaking to a deserted sandbank for a picnic. Paddle boarding to turtle nesting sites. Unparalleled diving, snorkelling and fly fishing. Imagine a pure Indian Ocean marine adventure.
We recommend ending a trip to Alphonse Island with a couple of nights on Mahé island. You’ll desire the added layer of luxury after the adventure.
For active travellers & golfers – Constance Lemuria Praslin Seychelles
Constance Lemuria Praslin is very popular with EliteVoyage clients, who always provide very positive feedback.
It’s surrounded by two of the planet’s most spectacular beaches and one of its ultimate golf courses. For golfers, this is the only place we recommend in the Seychelles.
The quality of the entry-level villas is low in comparison to the other resorts in this article. We only recommend pool or presidential villas, not junior or senior suites. Two-bedroom pool villas are good for families and the presidential villa is most popular with our clients. Constance Lemuria offers good value and is best for people wanting an active holiday.
It’s not just golf. There’s so much to explore on Praslin island and you’ll really have a holiday in nature.
For anyone – Six Senses Zil Pasyon
Sublime. A timeless island paradise, the only resort on an island protected as a national park. Great for anyone.
Zil Pasyon combines high-end comfort and luxury with a wonderfully wild island setting. Here you won’t find the hyper-manicured landscapes of a Maldivian island.
In terms of sustainability, spa and an experience in nature, Six Senses Zil Pasyon is the number one in the Seychelles. The scattered villas are more than private enough for couples, with the multi-bedroom residences ideal for families.
This is an island of 30 villas and four beaches, where an entire island becomes your personal playground. However, there isn’t a beach in the resort grounds and there are lots of small coral pieces, so bring good water shoes for your holiday adventure.
