This fresh take on the all-inclusive concept creates a good option for an easy family holiday on the beachfront. Certainly not the highest luxury but it’s great for kids, with a Michelin restaurant and a good spa showing you can have a classy all-inclusive.
Stay at Ikos Andalusia
Splashes and shouts from the pool, your kids playing excitedly in the Spanish sun. As you contemplate the menu at Michelin-starred Ettore Botrini’s restaurant, in a state of bliss after your spa session. This is not the usual all-inclusive. Yoga. Paddle boards. A la carte menus. Room service breakfast with Taittinger. It’s on the beach, more intimate than it initially seems, and effortless if you want a family holiday with sun, sea and simply nothing to think about.
Location
Occupying a huge beachside plot on Spain’s sultry Costa del Sol, about an hour from Malaga airport. The beach itself is a little uninspiring so don’t come for this alone. Most guests are enjoying the different pools or taking an afternoon trip to nearby destinations such as Gibraltar, Ronda and Marbella.
Rooms
The low-slung and low-key whitewashed buildings are home to almost 400 rooms. Although they’re all spacious, we’d avoid the entry level rooms for something offering more space. Some deluxe suites have private pools and there’s a good variety of family-focused options, so you will have a space to call your own.
Who is it for
Resorts don’t come much easier or family friendly than this. We really struggle to see the appeal for couples, especially during the school holidays when all but one swimming pool is filled with ball games and inflatables. This isn’t the typical buffet after buffet resort, so if you want a higher class of all-inclusive, Ikos is as good as you’ll find in Spain.
Facilities & activities
Six restaurants with menus designed by Michelin-starred chefs, even one dreaded buffet which is actually really good. Complimentary car hire, massage, round of golf, premium drinks, water toys and a lot more. There’s a kids club but there so much else going on you may not need it. All in all, it’s very good value for families when you consider the quality of what’s included. But it’s all inclusive, so not a very adventurous holiday choice.
