The Silo Hotel

The hippest place to stay in Africa, a true destination hotel that’s stunning in terms of architecture and design. For young-minded travellers, it’s the most stylish choice in South Africa.

Stay at The Silo Hotel

Stretch out on upholstered velvet and take in the view. That’s Table Mountain. There’s Cape Town city. Beneath you the deep Atlantic blue. But you can’t take your eyes off something else. It’s your suite. Egyptian chandeliers, Persian carpets, bold colours, eclectic decor…all of it finds a space within the industrial concrete architecture of this remodelled building. This spectacular hotel from the Royal Portfolio will surprise you, shock you even. It’s brash, contemporary, a million miles away from any image of colonial Africa. No other hotel in Southern Africa is as stylish or visually stunning.

Location

In a redeveloped industrial zone on the waterfront, the Silo is located directly above the Zeitz MOCAA (Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa). The views are unreal as it’s the tallest building for kilometres around, especially from the rooftop pool and bar. From here you can easily and safely walk around the V&A Waterfront as well as access most of the city’s iconic attractions.

Rooms

Industrial chic meets new-world Africa and discerning globetrotter, a style that will wow anyone who wants a memorable hotel room (of course each of the 28 rooms are individually designed). Bathrooms have the best view, with a bathtub situated in a pillowed window area. If you prefer old and charming, definitely stay elsewhere.

Who is it for

Such a design-centric property is naturally for the fashionistas and anyone who wants the ultimate Cape Town Instagram snaps. While it’s definitely new world in style and more focused on young people, you don’t need to be a fashionista to stay here and the service is very good. Families should look elsewhere though, specifically at the One&Only a few hundreds metres down the waterside.

Facilities & activities

This is a destination hotel and people want to be seen at the rooftop pool and bar, which is nice but by no means a peaceful or private place during your stay. Amenities are relatively thin on the ground here, although the breakfast is fabulous.
