Vineyards, vineyards, everywhere. Off you wander through the vines, beneath a sunny sky, finding your own piece of the Cape Winelands. Admire your hotel from a distance, a thatched-roof country homestead with whitewashed walls. Yet venture back inside and it’s not old fashioned. The interiors are classy and chic, glamorous and quirky, hints of the old meeting what’s demanded by a modern traveller. It’s so comfortable you could stay here for days, weeks in fact. The only bad thing about a hotel this good, is that you will probably need to move on, because there are so many more destinations to experience in South Africa.

Location

Mont Rochelle is a working wine farm, on lower mountain slopes about a 10-minute drive above the town of Franshoek. Cape Town is only one hour away.

Rooms

We love the style of Mont Rochelle. It balances the old and new, the feel of a private homestead with the convenience of a vineyard hotel. It’s all very elegant and romantic, yet also suitable for families. There are 26 rooms in five different room categories, in either the original homestead or a newly built wing. Shiraz Rooms will be too small for some. Cap Classique Suites offer private plunge pools. There’s also the Manor House, a private villa for family groups, with four suites and two swimming pools.

Who is it for

This is a relaxed option for exploring the Cape Winelands, for couples and families. In comparison to properties like Delaire Graff, Mont Rochelle retains many elements of the region’s heritage, which can be a deciding factor for many.
