El Silencio Lodge & Spa

A perfect introduction to Costa Rica’s nature and style, this spectacular eco lodge brings you activities galore, unique nature and very impressive suites. We love it.

Stay at El Silencio Lodge & Spa

Mist flutters in the cloud forest. Birds dance in the trees. The soft rumbling you hear is a nearby waterfall. From your terrace there’s a view over the forested valley. Immersed in nature you dip into the outdoor hot tub, sip on a hot chocolate and rest after the day’s outdoor activities. And one hour from now you’ll be dining on some of Costa Rica’s best cuisine. El Silencio is a marvellously remote and high-end eco lodge, next to two national parks and surprisingly, only one hour from San Jose. It was the first ever Relais & Chateaux in Central America and the location near San Jose is ideal as your first stop in Costa Rica. Here you’ll really feel why Costa Rica is such an exciting and unique destination.

Location

It feels like a lodge on the edge of the world. The natural location is spellbinding, with waterfalls, cloud forest, hummingbirds and the nearby presence of Poas Volcano and Juan Castro Blanco national parks. You stay at 1500 metres above sea level, at the end of a spectacular mountain pass. But remarkably, it’s only one hour from San Jose and 90 minutes by road from Costa Rica’s main international airport.

Rooms

Bursts of colour and oodles of space dominate the suites. They are actually standalone villas, terraced onto the hillside, with uninterrupted cloud forest views. The outdoor hot tubs are a real highlight. Size and location are the main differences between room categories, with two and three-bedroom options for friends and family, plus more secluded locations for the villas and honeymoon suite.

Who is it for

We think it’s ideal as a first experience in Costa Rica, for both couples and families. You have nature, a lot of things to do, but also plenty of comfort and easy access from San Jose.

Facilities & activities

Go explore. Hike to waterfalls and swim in remote pools. Bump through the cloud forest on a mountain bike or e-bike. What other lodge has four zip lines within its grounds? Plus horseback riding trails and a hummingbird garden? Poas Volcano is definitely worth a day trip as well. The spa is good and the farm-to-table restaurant was responsible for El Silencio’s Relais & Chateaux inclusion.
