Baglioni Resort Maldives

A slice of Italy in the Maldives, this large resort can be excellent value, especially for families. It’s certainly not the most spectacular or intimate option, but the activities are excellent. So consider it if you prefer active holiday days over lazy private days in the rather tightly packed villas.

Stay at Baglioni Maldives

White sandy pathways. Hammocks rocking above Indian Ocean turquoise. The tranquillity of a tropical island idyll. And the initially unusual juxtaposition of Italian style, delivered by top Italian hotel brand Baglioni. Leave your children in the kid’s club and explore the ocean. Wile away an afternoon on a deserted island. Or besides your pool. Or just on a terrace with the ocean view. In many senses this is what you think of when you think of the Maldives, but with the Italian twist, in terms of design and the buona seras from staff.

Location

A pancake of floury white sands in the southern Dhaalu Atoll, Baglioni Maldives has a fantastic location for both underwater activities and dreamy ocean views. It’s a 45-minute seaplane transfer from Male and you’ll find oodles of interesting corals and marine life nearby, including manta rays during February and March.

Rooms

Some 46 overwater villas and 50 beach villas are squeezed onto this island and it means there’s little privacy. In particular, there’s very hardly any space between the water villas and you can’t leave your villa without bumping into other guests. Still, there is space for kids to run around and the lack of exclusivity or intimacy is reflected in the price. Baglioni Maldives is one of the cheapest Maldives resorts we recommend.

Who is it for

Definitely best for families. Couples won’t find the privacy they crave and island solitude isn’t very easy when barefooted kids are running everywhere. In general, this Italian-owned resort attracts Italian visitors, and not just for the excellent Naples-style pizzas and patisserie.

Facilities & activities

Baglioni excels when it comes to activities, with the complimentary watersports centre hosting a variety of water toys, plus guided activities ranging from dolphin spotting to an afternoon on a deserted islet. Wellness classes are a nice touch and the kid’s club is excellent.
