Jumeirah Maldives Olhahali Island

More Miami than Maldives in its design, Jumeirah Maldives benefits from some of the largest and most contemporary private villas in the Indian Ocean. If you like space and lazy villa days, this place is for you. Formerly Lux North Male, it was acquired by Jumeirah and reopened in October 2021.

Stay at Jumeirah Olhahali

Swap your coconuts and castaway vibes for a dose of Miami or Mykonos glam. Take breakfast in your floating pool. Indulge in the glass-enclosed spa and watch marine life swimming beneath you. Retreat to your rooftop deck for an evening of private dining, cocktails and a film beneath the stars. With its sleek white lines and vast open spaces, this modern resort is not the thatched-roof coconut-water castaway holiday you’re looking for. It’s a clear break from Maldivian tradition and very much the new world of design, where even the smallest villas measure 350 sqm.

Location

Conveniently located at the top of the North Male Atoll, Jumeirah Maldives is only a 45-minute speedboat transfer from Male, or 15 minutes on a seaplane. It’s just about far enough away to feel like a remote island, but close enough for an easy transfer, especially with kids. Turquoise waters abound of course, but this isn’t a great area for marine life and the diving is distinctly average.

Rooms

Maldivian rustic styling this is not. So forget the coconuts as this is modern Miami glam in the Indian Ocean. The design is very distinctive and not to everybody’s tastes. But the spaciousness will appeal to everyone. These are some of the largest villas in the Indian Ocean and all measure over 350 sqm. Think private rooftops, infinity pools, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, al fresco dining areas and more.

Who is it for

Ideal for families as you have so much private space to enjoy, whether on the beach or above the water. Couples also have privacy and this can be the perfect paradise pad for a holiday with friends. Just don’t come for the underwater activities. Really, this is a resort for people who plan to spend almost all their time enjoying the amenities of their villa.

Facilities & activities

An island host is assigned per villa. Go active with an array of water sports, beach volleyball and rooftop yoga, or get creative with a cooking class and workshop in photography. Adventurous gastronomy is plentiful, including overwater or pier dining, floating breakfasts and a retro ice cream parlour. But mostly, a stay here is about your villa.
