Abundant in activity, art and culture, the bustle of Barcelona invites you into its colourful lair. With sun-kissed summers and mild winters, each season carries newfound allure and it's easy to get away from the mass tourism crowds.
Explore Barcelona
Discover a vibrant landscape draped in history, beside a dazzling shoreline oozing glamour and charm. Old pathways evoke bygone eras. Local tapas and cava afford multi-sensory delight. Wrap yourself in the diverse beauty of Catalonia and get far from the tourist trail, for this is a region of endless places to explore.
Getting here and around
Situated only 20 minutes by car from the city centre, El Prat Airport is the most common arrival point for visitors. Once in the city, the best way to get around and enjoy the lively spirit of the streets is on foot. The Metro or a chauffeured car are good for longer distances, though like most urban centres traffic can get congested at times.
Climate & seasons
For sightseeing and general leisure, April to June or between September and October is most ideal. Beach lovers who don’t mind the peak heat should opt for July or August. Winter provides a chance to explore the city with less crowds, though temperatures do drop quite a bit. Alternatively, if you’re a sports lover, Spain’s football season runs from August to May and the F1 Grand Prix typically takes place in early May.
Where to go
While the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and La Barceloneta Beach are the most visited sites, there are several underrated gems across this coastal metropolis. For ambient scenes and a walk through history, head to the city’s Old Town or the beautiful mountainside monastery of Montserrat. Passeig de Gracia is the place to go shopping. Camp Nou and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya are great for football or auto racing fans.
What to do
As far as cities go, the array of experiences found in Barcelona are pretty hard to beat. Beach days, watersports and private yacht sails offer ample aquatic action. Back on dry land, the old streets of the Gothic quarter are perfect for a stroll. Retail hubs, sports events and food tours beside gastronomic experts promise to please regardless of palate. Savour authentic tastings in nearby wineries, or Michelin-starred dining. Customised sightseeing and exclusive access to important landmarks are also on the cards.
