Stay at Khwai River Lodge
In a game-rich area just outside Moremi, this venerable lodge provides every possible comfort and luxury in the wilderness. “Lodge” is an understatement. This is an opulent hotel, surrounded by elephants and other four-legged giants.The accommodation is magnificent and we love how this balances the adventurous safari activities, like game walks and nighttime game drives.
Location
Positioned gracefully under a canopy of leadwood and fig trees, the lodge is in the Okavango Delta, on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. It’s a 30-minute safari flight from Maun or 60 minutes from Kasana. The surrounding area is renowned for its large mammal populations and game viewing is exceptional. Note that the lodge is not in a private concession, so you will see some other vehicles during your activities.
Rooms
The 15 tented abodes are built on timber platforms overlooking the river. Tent is the wrong word to describe their amenities and opulence. Such suites are more comfortable than most five-star city hotels. Each features wide verandas with sun loungers. The two luxury chalets offer copper-framed baths, extended viewing decks and a heated splash pool.
Who is it for
If you’re not sure where to go on a first safari, Belmond Khwai River Lodge is one of your best options in all of Africa. This is also a great next adventure for experienced safari travellers. The ambient setting is perfect for couples, or families with older kids.
Facilities & activities
We love the variety of activities on offer here. Game drives in Moremi Game Reserve during the day, plus nighttime drives and game walks in Khwai Community Concession. You can do more than at most safari lodges, so you’ll experience more wildlife. It’s best to combine Khwai River Lodge with a lodge in the floodplains, where you can try water-based activities too.
