Stay at Eagle Island Lodge

Life at Eagle Island Lodge is dominated by the ebb and flow of the Okavango. This was one of the region’s first safari properties and the surrounding nature is magnificent, ideal for a first time on safari. Belmond delivers contemporary five-star luxuries to this wilderness setting. Stay elsewhere if you want a very authentic camp and the best guides. Stay here when you want to be super comfortable in a wild place.

Location

Only accessible by air, the lodge is roughly 20 minutes from Maun and 90 minutes from Kasane by light aircraft. Helicopter transfers are also available. From April to September the surrounding area is part of the annual Okavango flooding, so activities will mostly be on the water.

Rooms

The 11 luxurious tents have a modern decor of grey and black with copper highlights. They are positioned on raised wooden platforms and sit beneath local thatch so they and the hotel’s shared spaces meld into the surrounding landscapes, even if the interiors look and feel more like a smart hotel. Each has air conditioning and a private plunge pool.

Who is it for

There’s a clear emphasis towards adult safari goers, especially those going on safari for the first time. Children above six years of age are welcome, although only those 12 and over can participate in walking and mokoro canoe safaris. Families must book a private vehicle.

Facilities & activities

From April to September you’ll be exploring on mokoro canoe trips and motorboat safaris. Game drives by both day and night dominate proceedings at other times of year, although animal spotting is generally a lot better during the flood months.
