andBeyond Bateleur Camp

&Beyond’s stylish Masai Mara camp finds a great balance between safari adventure and hotel chic, making it a good choice for almost all safari goers.

Stay at andBeyond Bateleur Camp

Vervet monkeys impishly scamper across the grass. Grasslands stretch on towards the rose-tinted horizon. You’re at a gin bar, in the Masai Mara, watching zebras and elands pass by. It feels like a chic hotel, especially inside your tented suite. Yet this is also the wild, a place where animals rule, where you combine bush dinners besides the Mara River with the amenities expected of a contemporary city stay. Such a balance is rare to find and it eases you comfortably into the wilderness experience.

Location

Being located in the private Mara Conservancy means you enjoy the same incredible wildlife as Masai Mara National Reserve, without the large volume of safari vehicles. &Beyond Bateleur Camp is in the north of the Mara Triangle, about 30 minutes from the Mara River, only 15 minutes from the nearest airstrip. You will see wildlife around the camp and the location is good for doing the balloon safari.

Rooms

This is a permanent tented camp and although the tented suites are made from canvas (best for listening to wildlife and a minimal environment footprint), it definitely doesn’t feel like you are “camping.” Think wooden floors, oversized bathtubs, outdoor rain showers, leather armchairs, ceiling fans, antique lamps and black and white photos. As with all &Beyond properties, it’s stylish and recently updated, a modern take on the Out of Africa vibe.

Who is it for

This balance between safari and comfort is especially good when it’s your first time on safari. Safari aficionados will also be quietly impressed. When warthogs and monkeys and zebras are running around, you can have a very romantic experience on your private deck. Although children are welcome, we don’t recommend this camp for kids under 12, as they can’t participate with you on the game drives.

Facilities & activities

Game drives explore both the private conservancy and the main national reserve, so you’ll enjoy the full sundry of Masai Mara wildlife. It’s a classic Mara safari experience, with the luxurious extras, such as a hot breakfast cooked up on the grasslands, plus bush dinners at the Mara River beneath the stars. The gin bar adds to the Out of Africa vibe and your tented suite has its own well stocked bar.
