Prague’s New Direct Flight Connections

Eurowings, Lufhansa’s low-cost carrier, has made Prague its latest base. By summer 2022, Eurowings will have three A320 aircraft in Prague, flying to 17 destinations.

There’s obviously no promise of any luxury here. It’s not a new Emirates route. Not even a Lufthansa route. Eurowings will compete with Ryanair and SmartWings for the title of most uncomfortable flight into Prague. Still, it does mean new places to explore.

There are two options for the explorers out there. Take a private jet charter to any destination in Europe, especially one without an international airport (recommended, but more expensive). Or grit your teeth through a Eurowings flight and then splurge in one of the newly accessible destinations.

Duomo di Milano, Italy

Over the last two months, Eurowings has commenced flights from Prague to nine destinations:

  • Milan – the Friday 18:15 departure to Malpensa can be good for a weekend trip.

  • Bristol, UK – fly on a Friday morning for a weekend in nearby Bath or the Cotswolds.

  • Tenerife, Canary Islands (Spain) – early morning departures on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

  • Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (Spain) – early morning departures on Thursdays and Sundays.

  • Athens – 06:25 departure on Saturdays, 11:45 on Tuesdays. Aegean also flies this route.

  • Copenhagen – take SAS or Norwegian instead.

  • Barcelona – there’s Vueling or Czech Airlines as well.

  • Malaga, south Spain – SmartWings and Ryanair already fly this route.

  • Rome Fiumicino – starts on 24th December, competing with Czech Airlines and Wizz Air

  • Birmingham, UK – why would you fly there?

The following are scheduled to start between March and May 2022.

  • Stockholm (starting 3rd March) – The 10am Friday departures are interesting, but for most dates the route is better served by SAS and Norwegian.

  • Larnaca, Cyprus (5th March) – It’s a budget airline bum fight as SmartWings, Wizz Air and Eurowings all have inconvenient, irregular departures. You’ll probably need to combine them for a return routing.

  • Alicante, Spain (6th March) – finally a direct connection to Spain’s mostly misunderstood Costa Blanca. There are secrets to explore here.

  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain (29th March) – competing with Ryanair and SmartWings to the touristic island.

  • Valencia, Spain (30th March) – Sunday and Wednesday flights to one of Spain’s best destinations. Valencia is vibrant, modern and on the beach. Like Barcelona, but still authentic and not crowded with tourists.

  • Heraklion, Crete (1st May) – Flying Sundays 04:50 (!), Tuesdays 06:00 and Thursdays 13:10.

  • Corfu (7th May) – Saturdays and Thursdays at 06:00, which just about beats the SmartWings 05:10 departures.

  • Faro, Portugal (7th May) – A great connection, early afternoon Tuesday and Saturday flights to the south of Portugal. Perfect for undiscovered beaches and traveling inland to Alentejo.

If none of these routes are interesting to you, read up about the Beechjet 400A and go wherever in Europe you want.
