The Highlands, Ngorongoro

The road to get to The Highlands may be a little bumpy, but you’ll soon see why it’s worth the ride. This is the perfect place to unwind amid Tanzanian nature. The length of stay we recommend is around four nights.

Stay at The Highlands

Experience a new side to the Serengeti, with abodes that take the form of canvas and perspex domes. Inspired by the traditional Maasai bomas, Asilia Africa The Highlands beautifully honours heritage. Prepare for uninterrupted snippets regardless of direction, for it is here that untouched wilderness thrives. You’ll spend your morning tracking big cats and graceful herbivores, with scenic picnics on the plains under a shaded tree. Return to camp in the afternoon for a well-deserved siesta, before heading to the savannah again for sundowners in the wild. This time, a three-course dinner awaits you back at basecamp, followed by wine and stories around the fireplace.

Location

Tucked by a forest bordering Olmoti Volcano, the property has Ngorongoro Conservation Area as its neighbour. Idyllically isolated yet within easy reach of wildlife, game drives and village visits are all on the cards.

Rooms

The camp comprises eight unique dome-style suites. Within each pod you’ll find a king-sized bed facing panoramic views, a fireplace for snug nights in, and triangulated window design ensuring plenty of light. A special honeymoon tent with a hot tub also features.

Who is it for

This is an especially intimate accommodation, most suited to couples. Families with children aged five and older are welcome and will love the family tent. However, kids should be at least 16 years old to partake in any hikes.

Facilities & activities

Communal domes include a respective lobby, dining and bar tent. Each is spacious and thoughtfully styled, but you do have the choice of taking your meals out on the deck or in the bush. Activities here go beyond crater game drives. Expect cultural encounters with the local community, immersive lake hikes and more.
