Stay at Singita Kwitonda
From the bath you gaze towards a mist covered volcano. Gorillas are nearby. Golden monkeys as well. The mist swirls closer and you disappear under the bubbles, resting your legs after a day of gorilla trekking. Now with a glass of wine you lounge by the fire. Even after dark you feel the rainforest surrounding you, as you slumber into the luxury of this relatively new Singita lodge.With just eight suites and a private villa, this highly contemporary lodge has quickly become the place to stay for safari connoisseurs. Why? Well, apart from the standout design and exemplary Singita quality, there’s quite simply nothing between you and the gorillas. Some guests even witness gorillas from their suite.
Location
Kwitonda Lodge is right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, in a special buffer zone that prevents gorillas from roaming onto nearby agricultural land. When gorilla reach the edge of their territory they arrive here, which is preferable to them finding a farmer’s plantation and eating the prize crops. On some days, guests see gorillas through the floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s the best location of all Rwanda lodges and gorilla trekking starts very close to the lodge.
Rooms
With eight well separated suites, Kwitonda evokes an idea of space and privacy. Each has an indoor and outdoor fireplace, bedroom, lounge, enormous bathroom, private deck and hot tub. Like Singita’s South Africa properties it’s all extremely modern, with the highlight being floor to ceiling windows - you really feel part of the wilderness, even when lying in bed.
Who is it for
This lodge is for couples who like space, style, romance and a little wilderness. For the modern discerning traveller this is the place to be, although the price tag can be prohibitive for some.
Facilities & activities
Stay for three nights as this gives you time to do gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking, or to do gorilla trekking twice. Kwitonda’s equipment room is stocked with everything you’ll need for a rainforest trek (inclusive in the room rate), so pack light.
