If you’re just doing a two-night trip with one day of gorilla trekking, Gorilla Nest is highly recommended. It’s memorable, stylish and has all necessary luxuries for a short stay.
Stay at O&O Gorilla's Nest
Dazzling wood and glass villas in the misty rainforest, so close to the gorillas. Vibrant African artworks across the walls, so evocative and engaging. You’re sleeping in the trees, in treehouse-style suites enveloped by the canopy, with massive floor to ceiling windows that help create a connection with the wild. Tomorrow there will be gorillas. But right now it’s time to indulge.This was the original Rwanda lodge but it was incredibly worn and dated. Enter One&Only who did an amazing refurbishment and brought this place back to life. The chic, reimagined property reopened in late 2019. This is the largest of all the top lodges for gorilla trekking, but with 21 suites it’s still in the boutique category.
Location
Although it’s very close to the gorilla trekking trailhead you still have a lot of privacy here. Gorillas Nest doesn’t overlook the rainforest. It’s in the rainforest, so close that gorillas have been witnessed around the property. As with all the top gorilla lodges, you can reach Gorillas Nest in less than three hours by road from Kigali.
Rooms
The chic treehouses are filled with vibrant African art and fabrics. You can listen and watch monkeys from your private deck. Floor-to-ceiling windows mean the views continue inside. The suites could be a little more spacious though, especially if you’re staying for more than just one gorilla trek.
Who is it for
O&O’s signature style comes to the Rwandan wilderness. This is an eye-catching place for people who appreciate chic, original design. The service isn’t quite on par with the other top lodges, but we expect this to improve in the coming years, as One&Only continue their transformation of the grand dame of Rwanda lodges.

Come here for gorilla trekking. If you stay longer and plan other activities like golden monkey trekking, we recommend another lodge, where you’ll enjoy a more intimate atmosphere.
