Postcards of island paradise in the South Pacific. That’s Fiji and it can be as real as all the dreamy ideas and images.
Explore Fiji
Spectacular beaches fringed by glowing blue waters. Jungle and volcano interiors. Exquisite undersea worlds. And one of the world’s most laidback cultures. Forget about time and drift away. But note that not all islands here are paradise. There’s a huge variety within Fiji’s vast archipelago and not everywhere is like the postcards. So let's plan your trip wisely.
Getting here and around
This is one of the world’s most remote destinations and it’s a three-leg flight from Europe. Invest the time in the journey and you’ll want to spend significant time on holiday. Fiji is surprisingly well connected with other far flung destinations, and it can be a perfect combo with Australia, New Zealand or California. International flights come into Nadi on Fiji island. Light aircraft and helicopters take you to remote islands, with speed boats used in the well-connected Mamanucas islands.
Climate & seasons
It’s warm and tropical in Fiji, every day of the year. This is a holiday where you don’t pack long trousers, nevermind a coat. May to October is drier and less humid, so it’s more comfortable. November to April is the wet season, although the humidity is usually more of a challenge than the short downpours.
Where to go
Nadi is the entry point and it’s nothing like the postcards. So get in and get out. North from Nadi are the Mamanucas and Yasawas, two spectacular island chains (Cast Away was filmed here). They’re now very touristic, so careful resort choice is key. Our favourite resorts are private islands, located on the far flung parts of the archipelago. Nadi is located on the largest and most central island, called simply Fiji, and it’s where the most interesting cultural experiences take place.
What to do
Relax. Keep relaxing. Relax some more. Fiji is that kind of place and you’ll soon succumb to its soporific rhythm. The best resorts stand out because they combine this tranquillity with things to do. Kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling are the norm everywhere. The scuba diving is immense as is simply doing a day trip on a boat. The Fijians have a welcoming and interesting culture and you’ll be invited to explore, from spear making to catching and cooking the catch of the day.
