Sun Gardens Dubrovnik

A big resort with good facilities and amenities. It’s convenient, certainly for families, but is feeling a little dated and is an entry-level five-star option.

Stay at Sun Gardens Dubrovnik

Opened in 2009, Dubrovnik Sun Gardens Hotel is the archetypal large resort for summer family holidays. The facilities are mostly very good, notably the sports facilities and programs for kids. There’s nothing too unique or surprising about a stay, but you shouldn’t expect the highest five-star category either. In our experience it’s somewhere between a four- and five-star property, at a sensible price point.

Location

Set on expansive grounds spread along a hillside just outside the village of Orašac, 11 km north of Dubrovnik, around a 20-minute drive. The hotel has a small private pebbly beach with rocky access to the sea. The airport is around 40 minutes away.

Rooms

201 rooms and suites all with a balcony or terrace, all but the standard rooms come with a fabulous sea view. Plus 207 residences with one, two or three bedrooms, and a 5-bedroom private villa with a private pool. The residences are popular for families who have kids doing programs at the excellent sports facilities.

Who is it for

Sun-loving holidaymakers, especially families looking for good sports facilities and convenience. Those looking to easily wander the ancient lanes of Dubrovnik every day are looking in the wrong place, as is anyone seeking something more unique in terms of design.

Facilities & activities

Extensive. Eight restaurants and eight bars. A very good spa featuring an 18-metre indoor pool and a variety of sauna and hydrotherapy facilities. Three outdoor pools, including an adult-only one. The sports facilities are a big attraction for kids, including a big gym, tennis courts, a football academy, squash court and more. There’s a shopping promenade and even a ballroom. Boats run daily to Dubrovnik or Lopud Island.
