Québec

Canada

Quebec is a country within a country, distinct from the rest of Canada and with a passion for everything local. They proudly speak French here and the identity is both North American and European, embraced in everything from food to the arts. Home to Montreal and some beautiful old cities, Quebec is a great counterpoint to the rest of Canada, a very cultural province to start or end your holiday.

Hidden charms on colourful city streets. Historic cities of cobblestone and intrigue. Bucolic landscapes of vineyards and winter skiing. Getting here and around

Montreal is really well connected and you can fly here directly from Vienna, Munich, or dozens of cities across Western Europe and North America. Quebec City is about three hours away by road, with Toronto five hours away in the opposite direction.

Climate & seasons

Montreal comes to life during the mild summer months, with May to September the most popular time to travel. Winter is quiet and cold, except for Christmas and New Year, while spring has very unpredictable weather. Autumn can be beautiful as gorgeous colours fill both city streets and open landscapes.

Where to go

Montreal is a beautiful and distinctive city, part old-world France, part cultural hotspot and part new-world hipster hangout. The locals like to eat and live well, from cafe terraces beneath 18th-century facades to a medley of music and arts. Old Quebec is equally photogenic, the most attractive of the province’s Eastern Townships. Don’t discount nature either. From jagged coastlines to a vast uninhabited tundra, Quebec can certainly pull you outdoors, even if it lacks the icons of Canada’s other provinces.

What to do

Wander history-soaked city quarters. Watch the Formula 1 roar around Montreal. Dine at stellar restaurants and streetside joints. Experience the international jazz festival and Montreal’s love for theatre. Montreal is a great place to get lost, as there’s something intriguing at every turn. Quebec City is paradise if you like to explore on two feet. But while there is snow and skiing here, you’ll be better travelling further west for the slopes.
