Location
Idyllically situated on the Tegernsee lakeside, in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, only an hour by road or rail from Munich. There’s a nice traditional town ten minutes walk away.
Rooms
The hotel’s contemporary style is a welcome change to the very old fashioned hotels typical of Bavaria. We prefer the rooms and suites with a balcony or terrace overlooking the lake. These are available in all the room categories, however the two standouts are the Maisonette Suite and Tegernsee Suite.
Who is it for
Excellent interconnecting room options (and room rates) make this a strong choice for families. Add to this the many outdoor activities and dedicated children’s activities organised by the hotel. Outside the school holidays there’s a much more grown-up feel and we also recommend this hotel to couples.
Facilities & activities
This is a great base for active holidays. Mountain hikes, golf, biking, different water sports on the lake and a short drive to winter ski slopes. Then there’s a large spa area to relax in every afternoon and evening, including both indoor and outdoor pools. Althoff Seehotel Uberfahrt has the best dining options of any German hotel we know. Fine dining Fahrhutte14 is worth travelling for, Bayernstube is the rustic Bavarian eatery, and both Egerner Bucht and Asian fusion le duc tegernsee are outstanding options too.
