The Lodge at Chaa Creek

This longstanding rainforest retreat provides a charming alternative to the Caribbean. After a really impressive recent upgrade, it’s a good five-star option in a magical setting. Skip the entry level rooms and get yourself a villa in the trees.

Stay at Chaa Creek

Hooves kick up mud as you horseback through a remote jungle. Trails hint of resident jaguar. Yesterday you drifted down a river into a mystical cave. Tomorrow there’s hiking and mountain biking in this pristine corner of Central America. Following the trail you explore, all the way back to your Belize Ix Chel Villa. Now rest those muscles in your private jacuzzi. Look out into the jungle. Listen to the birds. Wonder at the playful juxtaposition of nature and your contemporary villa. After a recent and very impressive upgrade, this longstanding lodge now provides accommodation to match the quality of its surroundings.

Location

Halfway between the town of San Ignacio and Mountain Pine Ridge, Chaa Creek is located in its own rainforest reserve. There’s a lot to do and explore just on the property. It’s also a great location for exploring Belize’s non-Caribbean attractions, like caves, trails and Mayan ruins.

Rooms

Chaa Creek opened in 1981 but it’s only after the recent renovation we recommend it to clients. Skip the eco pods and cottages. The minimum we recommend is a Macal River View Suite, with its spacious terraces and al fresco jacuzzi. The refurbished Tree Top Villas are better appointed and have private pools in the forest canopy. Belize Ix Chel Villas are the most luxurious, but note that these villas have both a junior suite and master suite. So you will share some spaces unless you’re four to six people and book the entire villa.

Who is it for

Chaa Creek is a place for people who enjoy active holidays with lots of daytime adventures and a luxurious place to stay. Thanks to the recent upgrade, exploring an unknown jungle area is now comfortable.

Facilities & activities

Horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking…and that’s just on the property. How about riding down a river into a surreal cave? Or exploring Maya ruins. Did you know the tallest building in Belize is a 1500-year-old Maya pyramid not far from Chaa Creek? This and many more surprises await.
