Location
The best address in Bangkok, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya area. So much is accessible via a short glide up or down the river and the views across the water are lovely. It’s thanks to Mandarin Oriental that this waterside neighbourhood has become the place to be for top hotels in Bangkok.
Rooms
Rooms are dominated by natural light and almost all have views over the river. An extensive 2019 renovation retained the teak floors, ivory, gold and local handicrafts, while upgrading the furnishing and bringing some modern freshness. The Authors’ Suites are all one of a kind, honouring literary legends who have stayed at the hotel over the past 150 years.
Who is it for
A great choice for anyone coming to Bangkok, except those who really prefer a small hotel. It’s a natural choice for couples and also excellent for families, as the children are very well looked after.
Facilities & activities
Breakfast with a view next to the river is a culinary highlight, one of the best hotel breakfast experiences anywhere in the world. It’s complemented by multiple outstanding restaurants, including two excellent Thai options. The Kids Club is open from 10am to 6pm. There’s a nice spa and gym, two swimming pools in the glorious gardens, plus complimentary activities from Muay Thai boxing for beginners to sound baths. Despite all this it’s the service you’ll remember here. So many staff have been working here for decades and there’s such genuine warmth to every detail and encounter you have.
