Stunning gardens and an excellent spa are two highlights of this large luxury hotel, a Four Seasons which doesn’t look or feel out of place in old Kyoto. Not boutique or intimate, but very comfortable with good rooms, service and facilities.
Stay at Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto
An ancient pond garden sets the scene, just one part of a vast and beautiful outdoor space that makes Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto a great choice when the weather is good. Then add in the signature Four Seasons facilities and service, plus the modern rooms. This is a large luxury hotel and it’s not traditionally Japanese. But in an adventurous destination like Japan, this could be your comforting and reassuring place to stay.
Location
In the historic but not overly touristic Higashiyama district, close to Kyoto National Museum and some excellent lesser-known temples. Many attractions are within walking and cycling distance, just note that it’s not a super central location.
Rooms
Rooms are spacious and we like the large bathrooms, with their big soaking tubs. All can be configured with one or two double beds. Signature suites give you more space plus a balcony and view of the gardens, while residences are great for larger families.
Who is it for
The best option in Kyoto for families, with lots of Four Seasons family-focused experiences and a welcoming atmosphere for kids. Plus all the awesome outdoor space. All rooms can be configured with multiple beds to sleep two adults and two children, although suites and residences are better options if you’re more than two.
Facilities & activities
Can we mention the gardens again? It’s rare to have such outdoor space at a hotel, anywhere. The facilities are really good, like a swimming pool lined with wooden cabanas beneath the lobby to pine saunas. There’s a really good spa on site and two restaurants, of which we highly recommend Sushi Wakon.
