Belmond das Cataratas

The obvious choice of accommodation for visitors to Brazil’s side of Iguazu. Given the hotel’s size, design is perhaps a little lacking, but the reality is you’re here for what’s beyond your door. For intimate luxury, consider Awasi Iguazu on the Argentinian side.

Stay at Belmond das Cataratas

Circled by 700,000 acres of subtropical rainforest, this gem of an estate invites you in with its symphony of pastel shades. All around, the bustle of the jungle provides a natural rhythm. Arrive at the powerful splashes of Iguazu Falls within 30 seconds of leaving the lobby door.Alongside proximity to one of the planet’s greatest aquatic sensations, comes a private complex completely removed from the crowds of ordinary folk. Soak up a chorus of birdsong during a stroll through the gardens. Embrace slow moments with a caipirinha by the pool. Macuco safaris take you right up to thundering waters. But dinner at Itaipu is where the real magic happens, as the sun sets over the waterfalls to the scent of epic flavours.

Location

Situated directly at Iguazu Falls, this is the only hotel within the Brazilian side of this natural wonder. A stay here grants guests a prime position for exploring the national park, while IGU Airport is only a 20-minute drive. For the most ease, we recommend landing here and avoiding a border crossing from Argentina.

Rooms

The 203-room property exudes a classic, colonial charm, with floral Azulejo tiles, Iberian ceramics and Amazonian-inspired art. Most coveted are the incredible waterfall-view suites, however garden-view abodes are also quite lovely, overlooking the pool and palms.

Who is it for

Couples and nature lovers will revel in the immersive setting. Children of all ages are also welcome, with a Kids Club and shallow pool offering ample family fun.

Facilities & activities

Alongside trips around the cascading marvel by foot, air or bike, guests can venture forth on boat safaris. A delightful pool, spa and small gym provide excellent on-site recreation. Dining is split between high-quality buffets at Ipe and the formal, a la carte flavours of Itaipu with its outdoor seating by the falls.
